Import User Icon/Profile Photo via SAML/G-Suite

  • What do you need?

Import user profile photos/icons via SAML/G-Suite, instead of, or in addition to, Gravitar.

  • Why do you need it?

Nice to have. Folks aren’t all signed up or don’t opt to sign up for Gravitar.

  • How would it work?

Include user profile in authorization scope. Optionally allow some option to toggle between Gravitar icons vs SSO, or a combination of both.

Hey Matthew,

We’d love to do that, but actually as you sign in using SAML, there is no way for us to get the user profile photo from Google SAML, or any SAML matter of fact, unless if you provide a user attribute which links us to the user photo (pretty unstandard).

But here’s what we just did, if you click on Sign in with Google, then we will get your profile picture.

As you must use SSO, if you do click on Sign in with Google, we will now automatically log you in with Google to get your profile picture, and then perform SSO immediately.

So my ask of your team is to click on Sign in with Google just once so we can populate their photos.
